+++ START LOG +++
The most insidious feature of the Tyranid threat is its adaptability. Since the emergence of the first hive fleet from intergalactic space, dozens of hive fleets have been identified, each with its own instinct. While hive fleet Behemoth invaded imperial sectors as a single giant swarm, hive fleet Kraken employed multiple targeted attacks on imperial worlds, as if the creatures had learned from their previous demise. Where Behemoth engulfed entire systems with sheer force, Kraken was more insidious, infiltrating worlds ahead of the arrival of the swarm and keeping imperial forces spread thin. Kraken's tendril was similarly spread over many smaller hive fleets, which slowly overwhelmed imperial colonies one by one. As wide as its influence had spread, eventually these tendrils would merge and narrow down into larger and larger fleets. With its forces gathering, it became clear this fleet was preparing for a much grander invasion of imperial space. The final two tendrils had reached immense densities and were en route to merge, but not before their final It was on the hive world Ichar IV where one tendril conglomerated. This world had been plagued by a genestealer infestation years prior, which was thought to have been purged. The second tendril descended upon the [DATA EXCERPT HAS BEEN REDACTED BY INQUISITORIAL DECREE].
The first tendril of hive fleet Kraken met its end at the hands of the Ultramarines Space Marine chapter in the battle of Ichar IV. The Ultramarines fought valiantly against the same enemy that encroached upon their homeworld some 200 years prior. It was this prior experience in facing the Tyranid threat that gave them the upper hand. By engaging the swarm both in the twisting corridors of the hive world and in the cold void above the planet, they were able to repel the foul creatures. The second tendril of hive fleet Kraken was narrowly defeated by the [FURTHER DATA HAS BEEN DEEMED HERETICAL AND WAS PURGED FROM THIS DATA VAULT]. While at first total victory seemed to be achieved, the Tyrannic threat was not this easily subdued. Unlike hive fleet Behemoth, which was all but eradicated, the remainder of the Kraken fleet splintered into dozens of smaller fleets and dispersed into the void. This splintering gave rise to the Kraken splinter fleets, no longer one tendril, but rather diverging onto many unknown paths.
One such splinter fleet, Tendril 32b (dubbed Myopsida), was first signalled in 999.M41 in the Eastern Fringes of Ultima Semgentum. Although the bulk of Kraken's splinter fleets seem to be probing deeper and deeper into imperial sectors, Myopsida's path is much less clear. At first glance, its migration pattern seems random, circling erratically deeper into the Eastern Fringe. On closer inspection, this pattern is not as random as first thought. Splinter fleet Myopsida seems reluctant to interact with imperial worlds, actively avoiding strongholds and targeting only those worlds with weak defensive and strategic positions. Interestingly, in recently intercepted T'au comms relays our agents intercepted, it seems several frontier worlds in their empire have been targeted by Myopsida.
[XENOS COMMS DATA HAS BEEN REDACTED BY INQUISITORIAL DECREE]
Though the overarching threat of the Tyranid menace is ever present, Myopsida's threat to the imperium seems minor as of yet. However, we must stay ever vigilant in the face of this evil. Like we have found in our previous encounters with these Xenos, their tactics may be unknowable, but their behaviour should never be taken as mere instinctual. As such, it is this Agent's opinion that something much more sinister is brooding within the migration patterns of this hive fleet. Close monitoring of any divergent behavior should therefore be reported on diligently.
