+++ START LOG +++

Specimen MYOP-GG/08 was mistakenly identified as belonging to G. neuroticus upon recovery, though this classification falls apart with minimal scrutiny. The specimen has a notable cephalic growth only found in warp-touched bioforms of the Tyranid menace. This sets it apart from the Neurogaunt, which exhibits psychic ability only through its symbiosis with the neuroloid. Its apparent innate psychic ability is unique among the Gauntii genus as it is often only found in larger bioforms. To the uninitiated such differences are minor, though it would be wise for our initiates to exhibit more scrutiny in biological identification. Genetic analysis confirms the lineage of this species as being G. gladius.

Although it seems underdeveloped and unassuming, an emergent psychic ability in Gauntii spp. is a terrifying development. Though lacking in martial prowess, the creature is a formidable force to be reckoned with, working in concert with its boarding party to destabilize a vessel's defenses. The Psychogaunt is known to target psykers such as astropaths and navigators, manipulating their actions to disorganize the ship from within. After cutting off the ship from all outside communications through the Shadow in the Warp, the Psychogaunt will trigger psychic hallucinations that deceive its victims into thinking communication has been re-established. It is this insidious mode of attack that makes Myopsida's operations in the Karthago Reach so effective and deadly.

Specialized teams of Gauntii subspecies were first encountered in 3.652.009M42 in the Psylona Secundus system, and have since been sighted across the Karthago Reach. Their unique adaptations and mode of attack have only intensified rumours among imperial forces in the sector, and as such these subspecies have been assigned the moniker "The Masked Breachers of Psylona Secundus."
